National Parks: is
a non-governmental and non-profit organization that
coordinates the national and international volunteer
work. They carry out various programs addressing the
conservation of Costa Rica's natural parks. The
participants will be placed in projects throughout the
country. Depending on the park, season, and the work
requested, the following are some areas that a volunteer
could be placed at the time of his/her service:
conservation, infrastructure, environmental education,
park maintenance, opening new paths, making signs and
patrolling along the beach protecting the turtles and
their breeding (Available all year).

Private
Elementary Schools:
Private
bilingual elementary school with kindergarten and first
to sixth grade. Children are from 2 to 10 years old. The
volunteer will work as an assistant for the English
teacher and also will assist in the other Spanish
classes doing different activities with the children
such as preparing traditional games and dynamics (closed from December to February).

Public Special
Education School:
This is a
public elementary school for children who need special
attention due to a down syndrome, deafness problems or
other physical disabilities. The volunteer will receive
specific indications or instructions on how to work with
these children. He/she will help in the area of the
children’s development. The volunteer will assist the
teacher (closed on December).

Public
Elementary Schools:
This is a public elementary
school from kindergarten to sixth grade. The volunteer
will be able to help in different areas. The school
offers a rotating schedule work on the following areas:
helping the teacher of physical education, participating
with the children in sports and be an assistant for the
English teacher or the other Spanish classes (closed from December to February).

Public
High School:
Is a
public high school from seventh to eleventh grade. The
volunteer will be able to help in different areas:
helping the teacher of physical education, participating
with the students in sports and be an assistant for the
English teacher or the other courses (closed from December to February).

Day Care Centers:
This institution receive children from 1 to 5 year old. Children go to the center 5 days a week (from Monday through Friday) to receive healthy food and they all participate in a variety of learning activities. The volunteers help the person in charge in all necessary duties.

Special Education Center:
This is a Foundation (endowment) that helps young people who require special education. The volunteer will receive specific indications or instructions on how to work with these young adults, to help them on the development of skill areas (for example: teaching them how to work in the local industry, handcraft center or store).

Seniors Day Care Center:
The center was created to congregate seniors of the community with the purpose to keep them socializing with others and to offer them a variety of activities that entertain them. They also receive some meals. The volunteers help them on the activities and in all necessary duties.

Seniors
Home:
Seniors
Home that give special care for elder people who are
living there. The volunteer help the seniors with the
feeding, recreational therapy, cultural interaction and
maintenance (available all year).

Hospitals and Public clinics:
The institutions are public hospitals and clinics that take care of children
and adult. The volunteers will help the Volunteers Ladies Association
in different activities, such as recreation, feeding the
children and therapy and informative talks. (available all year, for clinics).

Children Social
Institution: It’s a governmental
organization that takes special care of children who
have been abandoned or physically and verbally
abused. The orphanage takes care of children who are
babies or up to twelve years old. Children may be
boys or girls (available all year).
